Looking for Treehouse Rentals? Then Look No Further Than Pickwell Manor!

Pickwell Manor near Braunton in North Devon, with its beautiful Jacobean architecture, grand mullion windows and stunning interior design individual to each apartment, is not just a pretty architectural face. It is surrounded by woodlands, and in those woods nestle 3 tranquil, hidden away Treehouse rentals.
We were lucky enough to stay at Pickwell Manor with our kids in the October half term, when the leaves started to turn a beautiful orange and the Treehouses looked like they had always been there.
We were staying in Constance, a seaside-inspired apartment within the Manor which can sleep up to 4 people and on the first day we were keen to discover the 6 acres of grounds with the children.

This was when the Manager gave me a key to one of the Treehouse rentals and said we could explore them in our own time. The 3 Treehouses consist of The Den – a 4-bed Treetop beauty, The Loft – which sleeps 2 comfortably, and The Hideaway – which also sleeps two. Each one has its own hot tub and outdoor seated balcony.
The Treehouses have to be my favourite part of Pickwell Manor and are the newest addition to the estate. Pickwell is surrounded by beautiful woods with views to the Atlantic Ocean and the owners wanted their guests to feel connected to nature and the landscape as much as possible during their stay.

It was whilst they were creating more outdoor activities within the grounds that they decided how wonderful it would be if the guests could live outside too.
The Treehouse Rentals

The Treehouses are hidden away in the woods, but fear not, Pickwell has thought of everything! You get your own parking spot and wooden hut with a wheelbarrow to help you with your luggage up the wooded path and a lantern if you arrive in the dark.
They have been built using larch and oak from sustainable trees indigenous to this country and are completely sustainable too! All their heat and lighting come from Pickwellβs 32KW solar panels that sit behind the Manor house and produce about 40% of all the energy needed, the rest of the energy coming from their renewable supplier BULB.

Pickwell also has its own boreholes that supply all the water and they replaced the oil-fired boiler with a biomass boiler which saves approx. 50 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year. Pickwell is passionate about the environment and is continually working towards a cleaner, sustainable, carbon-free future.
For every booking they get at Pickwell, they plant two trees. One in the Amazon rainforest through the coolearth.org project and one through weForest.org which has planted 20 million trees globally.
Not only a great place to stay but doing your bit for the environment too!
The Hideaway

Whilst staying at Pickwell, I was able to have a look around The Hideaway which sits in the woods to the right of the road as you drive in.
After walking up a flight of stairs to The Hideaway (which has spotlights for the darker nights), you come to a wonderfully natural and rustic decking that has been built around one of the trees in the woods.

Stepping inside, the dΓ©cor is simple but in harmony with the surroundings. There is a cosy open plan living area with a wood burner, table and chairs to seat 2 people and a balcony which looks out over the woods and views to the sea.
The fully fitted kitchen has a small fridge with a top compartment freezer, a two-ring hob and a double oven, perfect to cook up a cosy dinner for two.

At the other end of the open-plan living area is a luxury king-size bed with double aspect windows looking out over the trees and can be separated from the living area with a curtain. Theyβve even managed to squeeze in a full-length wardrobe and mirror.
There is a spacious en-suite shower room and toilet which again has been beautifully decorated with a floor-to-ceiling forest mural around the shower and a warm and cosy log cabin (or sauna) vibe.

I love how the height of the treehouse made sure that from every window and door, the only view was of the trees and the surrounding countryside, so it really did give you that perfect hideaway feel.
I never wanted to leave the beautiful Scandi-inspired dΓ©cor of the Hideaway, it was raining heavily outside and I just wanted to put the wood burner on with a good book (and a glass of fizz from the welcome champagne!). Unfortunately, my husband came along with a crowbar to prize me out of the seat!
The Den

Nestled high in the forest, The Den is the newest addition to the Treehouses at Pickwell. This enchanting four-bedroom sanctuary in the treetops is reached by a grand wooden staircase that spirals amidst trees adorned with twinkling fairy lights.

Surrounding the cedar structure is a spacious balcony designed to embrace outdoor living. Inside, the Den combines ingenious custom furniture with modern essentials. You can stay warm and cosy with a wood-burning stove, which is complemented with underfloor heating, ensuring comfort during winter nights.
And for a touch of luxury, the treehouse boasts its own exclusive spa hideaway!

The Loft

Finally, the Loft! It reimagines the classic treehouse concept, offering a cosy retreat for two, nestled high among the West Wood’s treetops, with sweeping views of the ocean beneath. It is ideal for nighttime stargazing or spending a leisurely afternoon in your private hot tub.

This snug haven strikes the perfect balance between intimate charm and opulent spaciousness, featuring a magnificent king-size bed positioned so you can gaze at the ocean from the comfort of your pillow.
Pickwell Manor

The beauty of these treehouses is that they are nestled in the grounds of Pickwell. They are a haven for nature lovers, featuring manicured gardens, serene woodlands, and tranquil walking paths that invite exploration and relaxation.

Whether it’s strolling through the vibrant flower beds, enjoying a picnic on the lush lawns, or simply soaking in the panoramic views, the estate offers a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Pickwell also offers a games room, tennis courts, croquet, an oversized chess board, a surf and bike store and electric bikes available for hire. You can even meet the animals of the manor including pigs, goats, rabbits, guinea pigs, ducks and chickens.
With so much to see and do on the estate, you may never need to leave during your stay!

However, for those seeking adventure, Pickwell Manor’s location in North Devon provides easy access to some of the region’s most stunning natural attractions, including rugged coastlines, sandy beaches, and the Exmoor National Park.
The manor serves as an ideal base for exploring the area’s rich heritage, outdoor activities, and charming seaside villages.
We visited Woolacombe, Croyde Bay, Saunton Sands and my favourite, Ilfracombe, whilst we stayed at the manor and even though it was late October, the area was still lively and stunningly beautiful.
You really are spoilt for choice at Pickwell Manor, which treehouse would you love to stay in?
